Forest policy and governance

Chatham House forest policy assessments are based on indicators that measure a country's response to illegal logging and related trade. Explore how forest governance has changed over time in Ghana.

Ghana’s VPA with the EU was motivated by the recognition of the challenge posed by illegal logging and its associated trade. The now operational legality assurance system (LAS) ensures that only legally harvested timber is allowed to be traded. Complementary to this are the Rapid Response Teams that are deployed to hotspots to further limit opportunities for illegal activities.
